Bags

When out and about, bags worn across the body are safer.  Unfortunately there are pick-pockets about and bags that can be worn across the front of the body make it more difficult for thieves.

Reminder

I'm sure many of you are thinking about what to pack!
Just a reminder shoulders and knees must be covered in places of worship so please pack suitable clothing.
The weather looks to be very changeable and the temperature is dropping so layers and a waterproof are essential.

Jet2 flight (LS791) at 7.00am arriving in Rome at 11.00am.

Monday
The adventure begins…
This morning we visit the Colosseum, site of ancient gladiatorial contests, executions and public spectacles.  In the afternoon we will explore the Roman Forum and the Hill, the ancient centre of Roman public life and then off Piazza del Popolo and the Spanish Steps!
In the evening we’ll go back to the Colosseum and take a short walk to the impressive Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emaunele II, affectionately known as the wedding cake topper!!

Tuesday
Today we will be exploring the area around San Giovanni in Laterno.  First up is the Scala Sancta, or the Holy Stairs.  According to tradition these are the steps that Jesus stood on during his trial with Pontius Pilate. Then the beautiful church of San Clemente - a church on top of a church on top of a temple on top of a stream! Just over the road to the enormous basilica of San Giovanni, which is actually the parish church of the Bishop of Rome (the Pope).
In the afternoon, we will celebrate Mass at the beautiful Irish church of Saint Patrick's. Then it is time to explore the area of Barberini,  visit some more local Churches and shop!
In the evening we will go to the famous Spanish steps for shopping, ice cream and to soak up the Italian atmosphere.

Wednesday
It’s an early start to St Peter’s Square for the Papal audience in the morning.  In the afternoon you will have the chance to explore St Peter’s basilica.
If you’re not afraid of heights you can climb the dome for great panoramic views of Rome or visit the Papal crypt.
Then its time to visit Castel Sant’Angelo, the mausoleum of Hadrian and one-time Papal fortress is, amongst other things, a great place to get uninterrupted views of St Peter’s.

Thursday
We return to the Vatican to visit the impressive Vatican Museums (Musei Vaticani).  The Vatican Museums are among the greatest museums in the world containing some of the most renowned sculptures and art masterpieces in the world.  However, most people rush through to see the awe-inspiring Sistine Chapel - and who can blame them!
From St Peter to St Paul...This afternoon we visit the Papal Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls, built on the spot of St Paul’s execution.
In the evening we get to enjoy the spectacular Trevi Fountain.  Don’t forget your coins...

Friday

Polo Shirts

Don't forget to pack your polo shirts - there will be a meeting soon to give out shirts.

Student Contact Information in Rome

The trip is run by an organisation called NST and a representative will be available throughout the week to support students and staff. The trip is highly organised and supervised and so a very successful week is spent exploring this wonderful city.
In addition to supervision, students will be given a credit card sized information card. The card contains on Side A: Metro line information; Hotel name, address and telephone number. On Side B it contains: Group Leader mobile number (Miss L Collins), useful italian phrases including 'I am lost, please help me to contact my teacher...' Students will be specifically told to give these to workers of the tourist attractions only.

Hotel Confirmed

We have our hotel…It is the ‘Hotel Noto’ which we have stayed in for the majority of our visits to Rome. It has a great central location and is a perfect base for our time in the eternal city!
